A photo I took of my friend James at one of our raging Antigonish parties. I always thought it looked a little like Lady Gaga, now I have proof! I might try this look next time I get all dressed up for the bar.

Take me to the riot
My place of work (Urban Outfitters Toronto, Yonge St) vandalized by G20 protestors.
"4:16 p.m. Protest goes north
The protesters are heading further north up Yonge St. towards Yonge Dundas Square. They’re becoming less discerning about the businesses they’re targeting.
They started smashing glass at banks, Starbucks, and McDonald’s, but have now turned to businesses like Popeye’s and Urban Outfitters.
Every 10 seconds or so there’s a cavalcade of noise and an eruption of cheers from the crowd accompanying the sound of broken glass." http://thestar.blogs.com/g20/
I'm just glad I wasn't working today.

Might as well jump
Jill always gets me to do a Karlie Kloss jumping pose. I haven't quite mastered it yet, but I managed to do it without falling off the roof so that's a plus!

She got dressed
The first image is from The Sartorialist. I thought the scarf tied into a bow looked so fresh and pretty with the tight high bun. I asked my friend Quinn to model this look for me since no one pulls of a high bun like she does. It feels a bit silly when you put the scarf on, because the bow feels so big and extravagant, but doesn't it look stunning? Thanks to Quinn for being my model. Hopefully soon I will muster up enough confidence to do this look out in public!
Eastern Glow
Last year I walked into a Farmer's Market out east in Antigonish NS to get some fresh vegetables. Instead I found myself drawn towards the jewelry tables (nothing wrong with fashion over food). I found a local man who made pendents and bracelets out of rocks, sea glass and old pottery. The cream coloured pendant caught my eye and the man explained to me that it was a piece of pottery washed up from the sea and wrapped in silver wire. How could I possibly resist? Since I bought it I have had countless compliments on it, and I still love it as much as I did when I first bought it.
This past February, my friend Allison went to Nicaragua to build houses. She went to a little pottery shop and, inspired by my pendent, asked if she could have any bits of broken pottery. She brought them back to Canada and we spent a whole day breaking up the pieces and wrapping them in copper wire to make pendents. We made about 40 of them, the brown one above is one of them. It's always fun when people ask "where did you get that beautiful pendant?" and I can respond "Oh I just made it out of one of a kind pottery from Nicaragua... No big deal".

These boots are made for walkin'
Over the Christmas holidays my new obsession began... Frye boots. Frye is one of the oldest shoe companies in North America. They began as soldier attire and now their bulky style and quality leather are considered fashionable and practical. I searched night and day in vintage stores and even bid on (and lost) about 7 pairs on ebay. Just when I had almost given up hope, I received a message from my brother; "hey, do you want a pair of free Frye boots?" ... Ummm, YES! When I got back from school 2 months later, and tried them on, low and behold I could not get the narrow opening on my high arched foot (a common altercation between me and most boots). But all was not lost. I took them into a shoe repair shop and had a zipper installed on the inside seem. And now I am the proud owner of beautiful Frye boots that fit!
I love the colour and the buckle on the side. And because they are light and cropped, they can work in any season, with a variety of different types of outfits. Yay! Boots make me so happy.

What I wouldn't do
Fascination Street
I love everything about this outfit (Stockholm Street Style). Ok so I probably couldn't pull off those sunglasses, but I will search night and day to find a shirt like the one she is wearing. If I can't find it, then I fully intend on making my own by buying a sheer shirt and attaching a colourful patterned fabric. I will post picks when I have accomplished this fashion endeavor.

The Pants Situation
The past few weeks have been beautiful weather so I have been wearing a lot of shorts and skirts. But I have been noticing the lack of pants in my closet. I have a couple pairs of skinny jeans, but lately I have been in the market for a good pair of boyfriend jeans, and a pair of light tapered trousers. Any of these would do...
mmmm boyfriend jeans... (The Sartorialist)ADAM pre-fall 2010
But since I am but a poor, unemployed university graduate, I think I can settle for these from Zara (they look quite similar to the Stella McCartney ones above!!)
** Fun fact, The Pants Situation is actually an indie band from Calgary, whose album I reviewed for the radio station I used to work at. I guess their name just stuck with me. **
** Another fun fact, that just came to me! Today I stumbled upon a picture of the tallest man ever to have lived. His name is Robert Wadlow and he was 8 ft 11 in!!! Must have taken A LOT of material to make pants that fit him. **

Simple perfection
So Vogue magazine tells me that neutral shades are in for spring summer '10. Which explains why lately (since winter even!) all I want to buy is pretty little skirts, shirts, and dresses in light fabrics and even lighter shades. For some reason whenever I think of ultra feminine and neutral colored clothing, it always makes me think of Chanel (like these examples from the spring/summer 2010 collection).
The other day I went to 69 Vintage on Bloor St. and bought 3 dresses all in light pink and cream colors, for $15. The dress in the photo I almost didn't buy because it had a huge stain on the front and needed to be hemmed. But I love having a project to work on. So with the help of my mother (and spray and wash) I removed the stain COMPLETELY, and hemmed the dress to my desired length and... voila!
Sending out an S.O.S
Keeping with stripes and nautical style, I found the first image on the Sartorialist in May and loved it. The stripes pair well with the military blazer. And then there is my attempt to channel the look... I got the short sleeve blazer with gold buttons from a second hand store in Antigonish NS for 50 cents! The skirt is Urban Outfitters and the shoes used to be my mother's.
